NASMUN 2021

2-3 June

Notice: Due to COVID-19, NASMUN 2021 will be held online.

NASMUN is a two-day student-initiated Model United Nations (MUN) event organised by the Secondary 3 CHAMPS students annually. It is currently on its fifth run this year, after starting out in 2017. For the past five years, the conference has been a preparatory platform for aspiring delegates in the East Zone to inquire and familiarise themselves with present-day issues, which are relevant and prevalent to our global community. We aim to give all participants an opportunity to acquire and hone skills, such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking, to prepare themselves for the future.

The theme for NASMUN 2021 is Our Words, Our World. It describes how through their words and decisions spoken or written during the conference, the Secretariat hopes that all delegates would strive to dive deeper into the topics and consider multiple perspectives alongside fellow council members. This should be done in an effort to better comprehend the complexities of international relations and cultivate a greater world for everyone. We wish that NASMUN 2021 can help all delegates grow holistically as people. Boosting their confidence and skills to take charge in council through the various learning experiences, and leaving delegates with new friends and stories to tell.

MUNs are events that allow participants to better understand the inner workings of the United Nations, an international organisation aimed at building a better, peaceful world. Students, masquerading as delegates of different countries, work together in their assigned councils to solve global problems through policy and diplomacy. By the conclusion of the MUN, every council has to come up with a resolution paper. This contains solutions brainstormed by the delegates during the session. MUN as a whole invites further thinking and understanding of nuanced topics through multiple lenses. In addition, they help develop speech and writing, as well as teamwork and research skills.
