During the first session on day 1, China stated that recycling might not be able to solve plastic pollution short term or long term; it only delays the pollution. This is because the amount of recycled plastic is close to none, about 4 percent during 2020. Furthermore, most plastics can only be recycled once, and the more it is recycled, the lower the quality of the plastic will be. Hence, the plastics will eventually be unrecyclable and inevitably end up in the environment, delaying the pollution.
