A database system proposed by the delegate of Australia would allow countries to solve the identity theft issue by storing important information of a nation’s citizens in a device. However, this solution is extremely technological and unrealistic, as the delegates misunderstood the basic concepts of information technology, while not reading the newest documents of nations’ technology development plan.

First of all, it is completely technologically invalid. Identity theft is the act of stealing one’s identity information virtually or physically, which is either by hacking a company’s database or buying personal information from one. However, the database is a device that stores information of a nation’s citizens, which allows hackers to steal the information much easier. Hence, it is clear that this database project is invalid in solving the identity theft issue.

Meanwhile, it seems like the delegates are also detached from reality. According to the Endless Frontier Act, proposed by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), accepted by the congress on May 13th, it aims to invest 100 billion US dollars within five years to support basic and advanced research, commercialization, and education and training programs in key technological areas. These areas include artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, advanced communications, biotechnology, and advanced energy. From the proposal, we can easily infer that the solution does not lie on simply building a database that stores information. It would rather be a more advanced data encryption algorithm or something similar.

In conclusion, we believe that the database project is an unprofessional suggestion, surprisingly gaining the support of many countries, like cranks proving E=mc2 is wrong. In this case, it is understandable that the delegate of Singapore came up with the jaw-dropping statement of defaming their own government by saying that it is not as uncorrupted as non-government organizations. Ridiculous, it seems, but what if the delegate is telling the truth?
